A former Erindale Secondary School teacher has pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of one of his students. James Biss, 53, of Erin Mills, who entered his plea yesterday in Brampton court, returns to court on Sept. Court documents show Biss admitted to, "for a sexual purpose," touching the female student's body while he was "in a position of trust or authority" between April and August of in Ontario and while on school-related trips to Italy and Kenya. Several other charges, including multiple counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual assault, all relating to the same student, were withdrawn.

Calling his actions a "gross breach of trust" that amounted to an "enormous deception," an Ontario Court judge has sentenced a former Erindale Secondary School teacher to 14 months in jail for a sexual relationship he had with one of his students. The sexual activities between James Biss, 53, and the year-old girl included, among other things, oral sex, fondling and several attempts at full intercourse, Justice Joseph Bovard said in his ruling this afternoon in Brampton court. The effect on the victim has been devastating," the judge said.
