It will be the first total solar eclipse since , the first time in years that you could potentially see stars in the mid-afternoon. Eric Loch, a member of the Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society, said it will be a big moment for hobbyists like him who spend many hours studying the skies. Loch says the eclipse will bring gradual darkness to the Lehigh Valley and nearly everyone should be able to watch it happen. Students get backstage look at Musikfest main stage act.
Stargazing parties coming up at observatories across Pennsylvania
The club meetings and public events are held far away from the city lights at the Thomas G Cupillari Observatory. The best observing is done in dark skies so it is best to drive out to darker skies to observe. The observatory is located in Fleetville, PA and you will be amazed at how many stars you can see. The site has three separate observatories housing various types of telescopes.
The Lackawanna Astronomical Society holds many free events throughout the region. Cupillari Observatory located in Fleetville, Pa. Many club members act as volunteers and assistants at the Public Nights, Open House evenings, and Lecture Series given by Keystone College which owns and operates the observatory. Along with our public nights at the observatory, one of your best opportunities for observing during the summer months are our free star parties at Promised Land, Lackawanna and Frances Slocum State Parks. Feel free to bring your own telescope if you have one.
